“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” - Romans 5:3-5, ESV Character matters! We’ve been hearing that phrase a lot lately, but what does that mean? What we carry in our hearts defines how we behave. Our thoughts, our actions, what we say, comes from the heart. A glad heart brings forth happiness. When we are happy, we have hope in better things to come. When we are sad, we can still treat others with love and respect; be kind to those who are not kind to us. Sour hearts spew hate, venom and judgmentalism. The phrase, “leaves a sour taste in one’s mouth”, comes to mind. People with sour hearts, can leave you hurt and downtrodden, sometimes even angry. We can all have our thoughts and ideas, but how are communicating those thoughts and ideas to others? Are you leaving someone wallowing in their ilk, or are they thanking you for what you said? We protect our hearts by protecting theirs. When we carry Yeshua in our hearts we can fight off any negative thing from getting in. We will suffer, but in that suffering we will continue to love and continue to hope, because he is our hope. Even when we are being torn down, our character will be to build up, because character does matter. Be a Blessing and Be Blessed!
