“This is my command: that you keep on loving each other just as I have loved you. No one has greater love than a person who lays down his life for his friends.” ~ John 15:12-13, CJB Today is Memorial Day, a day to remember those who laid down their lives so we could have our freedom. Sadly, there are many that take their lives for granted, not realizing that they are here because of those men and women who sacrificed themselves. All our lives we are taught to forgive and forget. While forgiving is essential for our wellbeing, we should never forget. We should never forget where we came from or how we came to be. God brought us into being. He sent us his only Son Yeshua, who taught us what it means to lay down one’s life for those we love. “No one has greater love than a person who lays down his life for his friends”, or country. Let us remember today those who sacrificed themselves so we can continue to have our freedom. Be a Blessing and Be Blessed! "My brothers, practice the faith of our Lord Yeshua, the glorious Messiah, without showing favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your synagogue wearing gold rings and fancy clothes, and also a poor man comes in dressed in rags. If you show more respect to the man wearing the fancy clothes and say to him, “Have this good seat here,” while to the poor man you say, “You, stand over there,” or, “Sit down on the floor by my feet,” then aren’t you creating distinctions among yourselves, and haven’t you made yourselves into judges with evil motives?” - 1 James 2:1-4 - CJB The answer is yes! Some of us have been in congregations where people will gravitate toward those who look well and dress well. It gives the impression that those are the people God favors because they have so much. If you have little, God doesn’t favor you. Truth is, God favors all who believe in Him. It’s not about outward appearance, or how much we make, it’s about our hearts. We are not put on this earth to love a chosen few, we are put here to love all; “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This doesn’t just mean the person who lives next door, it means anyone who is near us wherever we are. We are to love all, whether they are homeless or living in a mansion in the hill. Our hearts should be Gods Holy Sanctuary. We should welcome all into His Holy Sanctuary. “… In conclusion, brothers, focus your thoughts on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy.” - Philippians 4:8, CJB We all have stresses in our lives. For some, the stresses could be on a daily basis and so overwhelming. It gets so bad that all you do is focus on the negative. It changes your personality, you become bitter. You become so bitter that all you do is complain and talk about how much you hate everything. Your relationships start to break off. Your family life is affected. What changed it for me was prayer. Through prayer I started to focus on the good things. No matter what my day held, I would find something in that day to be thankful for. I would ask God every morning to get me through the day and thank Him every night for doing so. I started to focus more on the good, and my attitude changed for the better. Yes, those things that happen in life still happen, but my focus is on the good. God is not someone who is off in the distance, He is real and He is with you every day. Yeshua is with you everywhere you are. We can’t control the life that goes on around us, but we can focus on the one who can. Choose today to focus your thoughts on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy. Be a Blessing and Be Blessed!
