“And you shall love the Lord your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. And have these words, which I command you this day, be upon your heart. And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them when sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you retire, and when you arise. And you shall bind for a sign upon your hand and let them be frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates. “ - (Sh’ma/V’Ahavta - Deut. 6:4-9, 11:13-21; Num. 15:37-41 This is one of the most important prayers in all of Judaism. It is said twice daily by Jewish people all over the world. It is a declaration of the basic principle of Jewish belief, proclaiming the absolute unity with God. This is a prayer that I believe all who follow Yeshua should pray daily. It is the foundation of our walk with God and also of how we should raise our children. We have so many people out there who are so lost, because God is not, or was not the foundation of their lives. Houses of worship should not be the only places we pray and worship. They shouldn’t be the only places we teach and learn from. His Word needs to be in our homes daily, so that when we go out into the world, we are prepared for anything the enemy throws our way. We need to teach it our children so they can grow to be God fearing adults, who are prepared for anything the enemy throws their way. So many children are not taught what it means to be in unity with God. So many adults are so busy during the week, that God’s teachings fall by the wayside. Then they go to their congregations on the weekend to get replenished. The children see this, and that is what they are learning. They learn that God only matters on the weekend. This world is a world full of chaos. God’s Word needs to be in our homes daily. Children need to learn to pray daily. When our children grow up in unity with God, then the world can be a safer place for them. “Train up a child in the way he should go; and, even when old, he will not swerve from it.” -Proverbs 22:6 Be a Blessing and Be Blessed!
