“Adonai said to Moshe, ‘Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘In the seventh month, the first of the month is to be for you a day of complete rest for remembering, a holy convocation announced with blasts on the shofar. Do not do any kind of ordinary work, and bring an offering made by fire to Adonai’.” - Leviticus 23:23-25, CJB This coming Shabbat, on the 19th, is Rosh Hashanah. We will come together as a community to celebrate the coming of the new year, a new beginning. We will repent for our sins before God and reaffirm his sovereignty over us. We blast the shofar to examine our deeds, correct our ways, and return to him. We eat apples dipped in honey to symbolize the sweetness of a new year, and round challah for the circle of life. We celebrate God’s newness in us. He purifies us, makes us clean and he sets us free. On Rosh Hashanah our fates are written in the Book of Life, and on Yom Kippur we are sealed in it for another year. May your name be written and sealed for another year. Be a Blessing and Be Blessed!
